442 new COVID cases, 2 deaths reported in J&K
Govt cancels leaves of doctors, nurses in Kashmir
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday recorded 442 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 1,33,454, while two fresh deaths took the toll to 2010, officials said.
Out of the fresh cases, 280 were from the Kashmir Valley and 162 from the Jammu division of the union territory, they said.
The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 141 cases, including 27 travellers, followed by 97 in Jammu and 47 in Baramulla district.
Two districts did not report any fresh cases, while nine other districts had cases in single digits. Budgam, Bandipora, Kupwara, Kulgam, Udhampur and Reasi were the other districts to register cases in double digits.
The number of active cases has now reached 4,154 in the union territory, while 1,27,290 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.
The death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic is 2,010 as two fresh deaths were reported from the Kashmir Valley in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, authorities in Kashmir on Monday ordered cancellation of leaves of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff in the Valley hospitals in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases in the union territory.
In an order issued here, Director Health Services, Kashmir, asked all the chief medical officers/medical superintendents and other territorial offices falling within the jurisdiction of the Directorate to cancel the leaves amid upsurge of the pandemic.
“…all the leaves either sanctioned or under consideration at Directorate level or at respective offices of CMO’s and other DDO’s in respect of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and other official of this Department are here by cancelled forthwith except maternity leave and leave taken in view of extreme medical exigencies,” the order said.
The director also directed the chief medical officers/medical superintendents and other territorial offices to refrain from forwarding any kind of leave to his office till further orders.
Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing a spike in daily cases over the last few weeks. The Lieutenant Governor’s office on Sunday also ordered closure of schools up to class 9 for two weeks and class 10 to 12 for a week.
