Schools to reopen in Kashmir from March 01: DSEK
‘Vaccination of students, teachers being mulled’
Srinagar: Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Mohammad Yunis Malik Thursday said that schools will reopen in Kashmir from March 01 with strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines.
Malik also said that decision to immunize the students and teachers is under active consideration of the government and that the final call in this regard will be taken before the schools start functioning after the winter break.
“Schools will reopen in Kashmir valley from March 01. We are switching over to physical mode of education so that children come to schools. So far as preparations with regard to COVID-19 are concerned, we have started an intensive sanitization drive,” Malik told reporters here.
He said the government’s decision to reopen schools comes in the backdrop of steep decline in COVID-19 cases.
Director also informed that all 10,000 government schools will be sanitized before opening.
He said 13 lakh students enrolled in 10,000 government and 3000 private schools involve 13 lakh families whose safety cannot be compromised at all.
“Immunization of students and teachers is under active consideration of the government; let our frontline workers including doctors and paramedic staff to get vaccinated. The decision with regard to students will be taken before the schools start functioning,” he added.
Malik also said that intensive sanitization drive has been started at the divisional level.
“All stakeholders including students, teachers need to be sanitized as per COVID protocols. We have started the intensive sanitization drive and will ensure all 10,000 schools are properly sanitized in collaboration with divisional COVID controlroom,” Director Education added.
