Baramulla: People from Muslim community helped in performing last rites of a Pandit neighbor in Deewanbagh area of Baramulla town on Sunday.

According to family friend Abid Nabi, pall of gloom descended on Baramulla town when news about death of 28-year-old Lokesh Bhatt aka Raju son of Satish Bhatt of Dewanbagh Baramulla spread in the town.

Lokesh breathed his last in R&B quarters in Baramulla on Sunday morning after losing battle with injuries he sustained during a car accident six months ago.

Upholding the rich tradition of town’s communal harmony, local Muslims gathered at his residential quarter to mourn his death and made special arrangements for performing his last rites.

With tearful eyes, Muslim neigbours including men and women bade final adieu to Raju who, they say, was darling of all neighborhood.

The deceased was cremated at Drangbal Baramulla. District administration and police officials also joined hands with the locals to help them perform the last rites.

Around a dozen pandit families are residing in the R&B government quarters in Baramulla as they did not migrate from Kashmir valley during the early 1990’s and instead decided to stay put.

Since then the two communities have lived in the locality in harmony and have always shown compassion for each other.
