Aurooj Nasir: Budding Artist

Aurooj Nasir, is a budding artist from Gantamulla village of Narvaw in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. She is a student of fine arts displaying immense skill and creativity in art of calligraphy. Aurooj did her schooling from Baramulla Public School and after completing her 12th, she developed interest in Arabic Calligraphy. It was during the time when article 370 and 35A were revoked followed by the pandemic that she got enough time to concentrate on her work. Aurooj developed such interest in art that she thought of making it her profession, and finally enrolled herself in Music and Fine Arts College in Kashmir University. she was supported by her family and friends who appreciated her creativity and encouraged her to continue her journey as an artist.

In a statement  Aurooj said,”I usually write Quranic verses which I think always convey a message and inspire people. Adding that, “For me art of calligraphy is very relaxing,  it gives me inner peace and makes me happy. I used to paint and make drawings but then I started working on calligraphy and it turned out to be very good. I am very thankful to Allah who has bestowed me with this talent. Art of Calligraphy has brought me more closer to Allah and inspire me to become a better person,”.

When asked about her technique and material that she uses for her caligraphy she said, “Initially I used to make calligraphies using simple pen and water colours. Then later I got calligraphy pens and now I use specific Kalms (calligraphy pens) meant for calligraphy”.

Aurooj believes that everyone is bestowed with some talent, they should recognize and work on it and show it to the world.  She is looking forward to become a full fledged artist and make her parents and everyone proud. Aurooj expressed her gratitude to Allah and thanked her family who have always supported and encouraged her.
