Apni Party stalwarts fail to make a visible mark but…
Gh Hassan Mir reclaims his Gulmarg constituency winning both segments
Srinagar: While most of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) leaders failed to make a mark in their respective constituencies, party’s senior Vice President, Ghulam Hassan Mir reclaimed his Gulmarg constituency as his candidates won both the segments – Tangmarg and Kunzar.
Mir lost to a young boy from a middle class apolitical family, Mohammad Abbas Wani in 2014 Assembly elections. Wani was contesting as PDP candidate and following dissolution of State Assembly joined Sajad Gani Lone led Peoples Conference.
However, this time round, Mir reclaimed the constituency as his candidates, Mir Tajamul Ishfaq (who happens to be his nephew) and Nazir Ahmad Sheikh won from Tangmarg and Kunzar respectively.
Ishfaq defeated the candidate of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) Ab Razak Malik (NC) while as Sheikh defeated PAGD candidate, Abdul Hamid Wani (PDP). Peoples Conference was not in the fray.
However, rest of the Apni Party leaders could not do the same.
In Baramulla constituency of party’s senior leader Javed Beig, JKAP couldn’t win any seat while as in Rafiabad, supposedly the home constituency of three JKAP stalwarts – party president, Syed Altaf Bukhari, M Dilawar Mir and former MLA, Yawar Mir, the party draw a flank.
In Sangrama constituency, party’s another senior leader, Shoiab Lone lost to an independent candidate.
Another party stalwart, M Rafi Mir couldn’t manage to make his party’s candidate win Pahalgam.
However, party’s another senior leader, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas has something to celebrate as he managed to secure the victory of his party’s two candidates, Tahir Ahmad Mir from Kanjiullar and Irfan Manhas (son) from Keller-II.
But party’s Srinagar leaders have something to cheer about. They won Harwan-V, Khonmoh-I and Srinagar-III, thus proving their mettle in the capital city. The party may also have to celebrate its victory in 13-Tangdar, a remotest constituency of Kashmir Valley.
In Budgam district, JKAP couldn’t win any seat and in Pulwama, Anantnag, Ganderbal, Kulgam, the party ended with Zero.
Bandipora, known to be bastion of party’s senior leader Usman Majid could only offer one seat to the party – BANDIPORA A.
