Srinagar: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain Monday said that the recently concluded District Development Council (DDC) polls will go with the golden words in the India’s history as there was not “even a single law and order incident anywhere during the entire polling process.”

He said that it was for the first time in the history of elections that there was not even a single law and order incident reported during polling. “Let me announce here that democracy has finally won in J&K after a gap of 70-long years,” Hussain said while addressing media at a hotel in Srinagar, as per news agency KNO

“There was no complaint from any party. We also didn’t complain,” he said.

Hussain, the former union minister said that it was for the first time that such a large number of people came out to participate in the poll process. “There were long queues outside polling stations everywhere barring a few places. This signifies that democracy has won in Kashmir,” he said.

He also announced that “this time BJP will make its difference felt.

“Let the DDC poll result come –whether we would be able to defeat others or not, but one thing I want to make clear is that we will surely defeat Congress in J&K. Congress is a sinking ship across the country,” he said.

He said that three parties contested DDC Polls in J&K — PAGD, which he referred to as “Gupkar Gang”, the Congress and the BJP. “We contested on 80 seats and on the remaining 200 we supported independent candidates,” said Hussain, who travelled extensively to almost all the DDC constituencies J&K in the past few weeks as part of campaigning.

He said today late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajapyee’s dream of “Kashmiriyat, Insaniyat and Jamhoriyat has come true as DDC polls have shown that democracy is the backbone of Kashmiryat and Insaniyat.”

He said in the DDC poll results, voting share of BJP will be up given the feedback he has received from the ground zero.

On when will be the 4G services resorted in J&K, the BJP national spokesman said: “Hopefully, very soon 4G will be restored in J&K.”

About ED’s move to attach properties of Dr Farooq Abdullah, and that National Conference charge that “it was a political vendetta”,  the BJP leader said: “Agencies are doing their job independently and it’s not good to link them with politics. Corruption has nothing to do with politics and any vendetta. Those facing corruption charges can go to the court and clear their stand there.”
