Born on November 14, 1840, in Paris, Monet was famous French painter known for his impressionistic style of painting. The term Impressionism came up during an  art exhibition in 1874 when a critic insultingly dubbed Monet’s painting style “Impression,” since it was more concerned with form and light than realism, and the term stuck and an  art movement started what we now know as’ Impressionism’.

Monet led the way to twentieth-century modernism by developing a unique style that strove to capture a different and beautiful way of perceiving nature. For Monet everything was a subject worth to be painted and he painted subjects from his immediate surroundings as well as people he spent time with. His first wife, Camille , and his second wife, Alice, frequently served as models. He often invited his artist friends including Manet and Renoir to his house and they would paint together.
