Wild bears roam freely in Doodbugh village, adjacent areas of Kandi Baramulla

Several animals killed, Wildlife Authorities assure to trap the wild animals

Baramulla: Inhabitants of several villages of Kandi belt in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are living in constant fear from past over a week as a group of wild bears are roaming freely in the Doodbugh village and its adjacent areas.

Local residents said that from past few days; three bears are roaming freely in Doodbug village of Sultanpora Kandi and its adjacent areas. “Around four domestic animals including two sheep, a goat and a cow were killed by the beasts.”

“We don’t dare to even stroll out in the evening and people have stopped offering evening and morning prayers in the Mosques due to increased movement of wild bears,” he added.

The local people appealed the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to catch the bears so that they can live without fear.

Range Officer Wildlife Department Baramulla, Mohammad Altaf Koul, confirmed that they have received information about wild bears roaming in the area and a team has been deputed to the area.

“After receiving the information from the locals of the area that bears are roaming in the area, a team of wildlife officials visited the area. I assure you that we will install a cage on Tuesday morning in the area to trap the bears,” Koul told Kashmir Images.
