Boat carrying BJP activists capsizes in Dal lake

Srinagar: A boat carrying BJP workers and mediapersons, capsized in the Dal Lake on Sunday during campaign for the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) elections, officials said here.

The ‘Shikara’ (boat) capsized when it was closing on the bank of the lake in the last leg of the rally.

The BJP workers and journalists were rescued by the locals and police.

Official sources said that the party had organised a ‘Shikara rally’ in Dal lake and one of the boats carrying several activists capsized near Ghat no.17 adjacent to Chaar Chinary. However all were rescued immediately.

As a precautionary measure, those who fell in the water-body were given medical attention.

The ‘Shikara rally’ was led by Union minister Anurag Thakur, who is the BJP’s in-charge for DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Tarun Chug and Shahnawaz Hussain besides other local BJP leaders were also present in the rally.
