An Introduction:

Iron is an element with chemical symbol Fe & atomic number 26 (i.e it has 26 no. protons in its nucleus).  Iron has four stable isotopes:

I)  26Fe54 (Iron – 54, Atomic no. 26; Mass No. 54).

II)  26Fe56 (Iron -56, Atomic no. 26; Mass No. 56).

III)  26Fe57 (Iron-57, Atomic no. 26; Mass No. 57).

IV)  26Fe58  ( Iron-58, Atomic no. 26; Mass No. 58) .

It is worth to mention here that the binding energy per nucleon of any chemical element is the measure of its stability. Binding energy per nucleon is the amount of energy required to isolate a nucleon (proton or neutron) from the nucleus of an element. Greater the binding energy per nucleon of an element, greater is its stability and vice versa. Of all the 94 naturally occurring elements, binding energy per nucleon of Iron is the highest. B.E/nucleon of iron is of order of 8.8 Mega electron volt (MeV). All other elements try to achieve iron like configuration to become stable. Smaller elements try to fuse together to achieve iron like configuration by means of Nuclear fusion and the elements bigger than iron undergo fission to achieve iron like configuration.

As we know that the source of energy in stars like our sun is the nuclear fusion. The fusion reaction in stars (like the sun) continues for a definite period of time till fusion reaction produces Iron. Iron is the stable element and its fusion cannot release energy. It is at this stage that the star is considered to be devoid of nuclear fuel i.e the nuclear furnace in the star shuts down. Now, in absence of radiation pressure, the star collapses abruptly raising the temperature to trillions of degrees. The gravitational energy compressed into this tiny object explodes outwards in a supernova. During supernovae heavier elements (like Iron) are thrown into space and some of them manage to reach various planets like earth. Iron, thus, is an element dropped down from outer space in a supernova explosion to the earth.

Al-QURAN about iron:

As we know that Iron is called “HADID” in Arabic and there is also a chapter (surah) in holy Quran by the name (Al-Hadid). The sum of Gematrical (abjad) values of alphabets in word hadid add up to 26, which is decidedly the atomic number of Iron.

                                                                                  +   د  + ی  +  د = حدید

=4  +  10  +  4  +  8

= 26

One may say what a coincidence it is!! But let us move a little further! There are 115 (chapters) in the holy-Quran and Surah Al-Hadid is 57th chapter and 57 is the mass number of one of the stable isotopes of Iron i.e 26Fe57. In surah Al-Hadid the word hadid is mentioned in verse No. 26 (Counting Bismillah as verse no. 1)- No. 26 again: The atomic number of Iron. In verse 26 (chapter 57) Allah Says:

We have sent down our messengers with clear evidence and sent down with them the scriptures and balance that the people may maintain justice. And we have sent down Iron, wherein is great might and benefit for people”.

This verse clearly indicates that iron is created somewhere in outer space and sent down on earth as mentioned above and proven scientifically.

Iron is in the middle in the sense that elements on the left side of iron in the periodic table tend to fuse together to achieve stable configuration by means of nuclear fusion and elements on its right side try to disintegrate to achieve stable configuration by means of nuclear fission. Meticulously, Surah Al-Hadid (numbered at 57 out of total 115 chapters of holy Quran) is placed in the middle of holy Quran. In the same surah Allah Says:

It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then established himself above the throne. He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it”.

Conclusion:

Truly holy Quran is the literal word of GOD as recited to our Prophet Muhammad SAW through the Angel Gebriel (AS). The Holy Quran is a great message and we must recite and understand the teachings on a daily basis. This shall not only help us to gain Allah’s mercy but shall also help us to understand the deep mysteries of nature and, above all, make us a good human being.

While writing this article the starting couplet of Dr. Allama Iqbal was continuously encompassing and ringing in my mind.

Talaash i Ilm tu pohunch gaya kahan se kahan tak  jahan mai

Bata tu sahi wo kun sa sabaq hai jo KHUDA na nahi diya Quran mai
