Demise of Greater Kashmir senior editor condoled widely; thousands attend Nimaz-e-Jinaza

Srinagar: A promising young journalist and senior editor of Greater Kashmir Mudasir Ali died of sudden cardiac arrest early Friday morning.

His brother Jehangir Ali broke the news on Facebook and wrote, “My brother Mudasir Ali has left this material world”.

Thousands of people including relatives, neighbours, friends and local populace attended his Nimaz-e-Jinaza.

Hailing from the Charar-e-Shareef area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Ali was also contributing to news portal The Wire. He has been a student of Mass Communication and Journalism at Media Education Research Centre (MERC) at Kashmir University.

Ali’s death has shocked the entire media fraternity in Kashmir who rushed to attend his Nimaz-e-Jinazah and took to social media to express their shock and grief.

Mudasir Ali was an inquisitive reporter, a talented editor and a humble human being.

Meanwhile, besides media fraternity, condolences have been pouring from cross sections of the society.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condoled the untimely demise of Mudasir Ali.

In his message, the Lt Governor said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of young journalist Mudasir Ali. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and colleagues.”

Expressing shock over the sudden demise of Mudasir Ali, Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) tweeted: “KEG expresses shock over the untimely death of young journalist Mudasir Ali. This is the second such demise witnessed over the past two months when a young scribe died due to cardiac arrest.

“KEG is paying rich tributes to these reporters who left us at the peak of their career. We sympathise with their families”.

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan also expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of senior journalist.

In his condolence message, Khan said that Mudasir was a bright, talented and hardworking journalist who discharged his professional duties with dedication.

Commissioner/ Secretary, Rohit Kansal tweeted: “Deeply saddened to hear of the unfortunate and distressing news of the untimely demise of young journalist Mudassir Ali. My heartfelt condolences to the breaved family”.

Director Information and Public Relations, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar condoled the sudden demise of Mudasir Ali. She presided over a condolence meet that was held in the office chambers of Director Information.

Dr. Sehrish in her address said that his death is a great loss to the society as he played a leading role in highlighting the local public issues through his journalistic work.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) tweeted: “Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Vice President @OmarAbdullah, party leaders express grief and sorrow over the sudden demise of senior journalist Mudassir Ali of @GreaterKashmir. The leaders prayed for strength to bereaved family to bear the loss and peace to departed”.

Expressing grief, Omar Abdullah tweeted: “It was a terrible shock to hear of the untimely death of Mudassir Ali. He had a bright career as a journalist ahead of him & the fact that he died so young makes his passing even more difficult to comprehend. May Allah grant him Jannat & his family strength at the difficult time”.

Mehbooba Mufti also expressed her shock and tweeted: “Saddened to know of Mudasir Ali’s sudden demise. Have known him for years & he was a great person. Still find it hard to believe. May Allah give strength to his family to bear this  loss”.

Expressing his condolences, Sajad Lone tweeted: “Just heard about the passing away of Mudasir Ali, a very talented journalist at the Greater Kashmir. Had sat with him so many times. Hard to believe he is no more. But that is life. My commiserations. May Allah grant him Jannat”.

Meanwhile, expressing deep shock and grief over the tragic and sudden death of young journalist Mudasir Ali, CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has termed the demise as an irreparable loss.

“Late Mudasir was a veteran journalist. The contribution made by him in the field of journalism will always be remembered. In his death, we have lost a great asset and the vacuum left by his passing away in the media fraternity would be difficult to fill,” Tarigami said, expressing solidarity with the bereaved family and media fraternity.

Former Finance Minister, Haseeb Drabu also expressed his shock over the demise and tweeted: Stunned and shocked to hear that Mudassir Ali, a brilliant young reporter @GreaterKashmir is no more. Always on the ball, looking for stories, passionate abt the power sector. Spoke to me last week. It is a personal loss, cant even get myself to say RIP, Mudassir. Terrible times”.

Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Friday expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of noted journalist, Mudasir Ali.

In a condolence message issued here, Bukhari described Mudasir as a professional journalist who would never compromise on ethics of journalism.

“The deceased was decent and thorough gentleman who would always keep a sweet smile on his face. Though young but he was an astute journalist who would come up with mind-boggling investigative stuff in his new stories highlighting the shortcomings in our governance system,” Bukhari recalled.

Apni Party president expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, his relatives, friends and colleagues besides the management and editorial staff of Greater Kashmir where the deceased was working presently.

Kashmir Press Club (KPC) has expressed shock and grief over sudden demise of senior journalist Mudasir Ali.

KPC in a statement said that the sudden demise of Mudasir, who worked for Greater Kashmir and also contributed to leading national and international media organisations, is indeed a great loss to the journalistic fraternity of Kashmir.
