Baramulla: Four civilians including a woman, a Broader Security Forces (BSF) sub inspector, two Army troopers were killed and two others sustained injuries after armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy gunfire across the Line of Control in north Kashmir’s frontier sectors- Hajipeer Uri in Baramulla district and Karnah sectors in Kupwara district Friday.

Official sources said that Indo-Pak armies exchanged gun fire in Hajipeer sector north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after Pakistani rangers resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation.

“A woman from Balkote and three persons from Kamalkote got killed in heavy shelling, ” said an offical of health department in Sub District hospital Ali Mohammed.

Sources said a Sub Inspector of Border Security Force (BSF) and two Army troopers of 59 Regmit were killed whi two others sustained injuries during cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Hajiper sector in Uri area.

They said a BSF Sub Inspector identified as Rakesh Doval received head injury and later succumbed to his injuries while two others have received injuries during the cross-border firing

Hospital sources identified the slain civilians as Farooqa age 44 Balkot, Irshad Ahmad age 48 r/o Saraibandi,Taib Mir age 34 r/O Saraibandi and another unidentified male body is lying in Uri hospital.

They said Pakistani rangers violated ceasefire and targeted the forward post of Indian army along the line of control (LoC) in Hajipeer sector due to which panic gripped Churanda, Silikote, Garktote, Hatlanga, Nambla and Rustom Mohallah areas and Kamalkote sector.

“Due to the cross border shelling panic gripped in these village and people were seen running for cover. The bullets landed in various villages,” locals said.People have take shelter in underground bunkers.

An army official said said Pak shelling was retailated effectively, he said no loss of life or Injury was reported in the shelling.

Meanwhile, Army on Friday claimed to have foiled infiltration bid in Keran sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Defense spokesperson RajeshKalia in a statement said that suspicious movement was observed by army at the forward posts along the line of control (LoC) in Keran Sector today.

The suspected infiltration bid was foiled by alert troops.

He said this was accompanied by initiation of an unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) by Pakistan along the LoC in Keran Sector by firing mortars & other weapons. Befitting response is being given.

Kalia further said that the CFVs spread to larger areas from Keran to Uri.

“This was the second infiltration attempt within a week. The earlier unsuccessful infiltration bid in Machhal Sector on 7/ 8 November, was foiled, in which three militants were eliminated”, he said.

He added that India Army is well poised to defeat all attempts by Pakistan to infiltrate militants into J&K, reads the statement.
