SEC interacts with District Panchayat Election Officers
State Election Commissioner issues final reservation notification for the DDC constituencies
SRINAGAR: Newly appointed State Election Commissioner (SEC), K.K. Sharma, today held a detailed review meeting with the District Panchayat Election Officers of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
An official spokesman, in a statement issued here said that the meeting, convened via video conferencing, was attended by Chief Electoral Officer, Hridesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioners, Jammu and Kashmir Divisions and Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
Deputy Commissioners (District Panchayat Election Officers) of all the Districts besides senior officers of the Election Department attended, he said.
Meanwhile, State Election Commissioner also issued final reservation notification for the District Development Council Constituencies in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Seats have been reserved for SCs and STs proportionate to their respective populations. Further 33% seats in each District Development Council have been reserved for women, said the spokesman.
This was the first interaction of SEC with District Panchayat Election Officers after being appointed as State Election Commissioner of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The State Election commission of the UT of JK is a constitutional body for conduct of Panchayat elections and has become functional with the appointment of K. K. Sharma as the first State Election Commissioner, the spokesman said.
