Two militants surrender in Sopore
Srinagar: Two militants on Thursday surrendered before security forces during a cordon and search operation in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, officials said.
An Army official told media persons that following the specific inputs about the presence of militants in Shalpora Tujjar village, a cordon and search operation was launched.
“When it was established that the trapped militants were local youth who had recently fled from their homes to join militant ranks, the parents of the two youth were informed and called on the encounter spot,” he said.
He further said that mothers of the duo misguided youth were called to persuade them to surrender before the security forces. They accepted the surrender offer and laid down their arms.
The quo was identified as Abid Mushtaq War and Mehraj Din War, both residents of Wadoora Sopore.
“They had gone missing on September 24 this year to join militancy,” police sources said.
The parents of the two youth expressed gratitude to the forces.
Both the militants, aged 20 and 21, are residents of Sopore town, the officials said, adding that the identity of the duo is withheld for operational reasons.
