Man killed, another injured after Army vehicles hits their scooty

Srinagar: A man was killed while another sustained severe injuries on Wednesday afternoon after the scooty they were riding was hit by an Army vehicle in Batwara area of Srinagar.

News agency KNO reported that a 50-year-old man, who was riding a scooty (JK01AD-0992) was hit by an Army vehicle in Batwara area of Srinagar.

The scooty rider died on the spot while another person was injured. The Army vehicle involved in the accident managed to scoot away from the spot, witnesses said.

The injured man, identified as Abdul Hameed Mir, son of Maqsood Ahmad, a resident of Zewan, was shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment where his condition is said to be stable, officials said. Meanwhile, police have registered a case s started investigations.

In a similar incident in Kangan, one Muhammad Maqbool Khan of Hariganiwan Kangan was injured after the minibus (JK16-5587) he was travelling in was hit by an Army vehicle in Hariganiwan area.

The injured person was shifted to SKIMS Soura from sub-district hospital Kangan for further treatment, said the KNO report.

Following the incident, locals hit the streets and staged a protest against the Army. They also blocked Srinagar-Leh road and demanded action against the driver.
