Srinagar: Students of 11th standard from different schools of Srinagar Friday staged a protest here urging the government to announce mass promotion for them.

Shouting slogans “announce mass promotion, do justice with students” dozens of the students including girls of 11th standard, assembled at the Press Enclave here this afternoon and staged a protest urging the administration to announce mass promotion for 11th class.

The protesting students said that they could not complete the syllabus owing to the closure of schools and poor Internet service. They appealed the authorities to announce mass promotion for 11th standard students of Kashmir Valley so that their academic year is not wasted.

“We appeal to the government to announce mass promotion for 11th class students of the valley. We could not cover our syllabus as schools were closed in the aftermath of the outbreak of coronavirus, nor could we do much through online coaching in view of the poor internet services,” Madiha, a student of GGHSS Soura told reporters.

Students also appealed to the government to restore high speed mobile Internet here so that they are able to avail better online coaching till schools become functional.

“Government should spare students from politics, if mass promotion could be announced in Jammu, why not in Kashmir. Kashmiri students have faced the worst not only because of COVID-19 but also in the wake of internet blockade, so the authorities must announce mass promotion for us,” Sadia, another student said.
