Doctor among 4 more succumb to Covid-19 in Kashmir

Srinagar: A senior doctor among four persons lost the battle to covid-19 since overnight in Kashmir valley, taking the total number of deaths due to the virus to 469 in J&K, officials said.

They said that 45-year-old doctor who was admitted at SKIMS Soura for some time died at around 6:50 a.m on Sunday. A resident of Konibal Pampore, the doctor’s demise has been widely condoled and some of his colleagues who spoke to GNS described his death as a great loss to the society. “He was very humble and a great human being who would go an extra mile to help people. We have lost a great colleague and asset,” said a colleague of the doctor.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old woman from Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district died at the tertiary care hospital. The official source told GNS that she was having underlying ailments and had recently tested positive for the pestilence.

Also, a 70-year-old woman from Pattan area of the Baramulla district who was suffering from “multiple problems” and had tested positive for covid-19 recently died at SMHS hospital here. Admitted on August 8, the woman was suffering from “T2DM, hypertension and bilateral pneumonia,” they said.

With these deaths, officials said, 469 people have died duo to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir so far. Among them, they said, 435 were from the Valley while 34 others from Jammu division.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old man from central Kashmir’s Budgam district become another victim of covid-19.

The septuagenarian was battling cancer and had been operated recently. “He had metastasis and was admitted to the hospital recently,” said a doctor at SKIMS Bemina, one of the exclusive facilities for the management of covid-19 patients in Kashmir valley.
