Covid-19: Death toll reaches 300; 353 more test positive in J&K

Srinagar: Covid-19 claimed 12 more lives in Jammu and Kashmir in last 24 hours taking the death toll due to the infection to 300.

Those reported dead include a 75-year-old man from Saderbal Srinagar, 65-year-old man from Maharaj Gunj Srinagar, 65-year-old woman from Malaknag Anantnag, 58-year-old IRP Sub Inspector from Jammu, 68-year-old woman from Sopore, 70-year-old male from Rainawari Srinagar, 75-year-old lady from Peerbagh Srinagar, 60-year-old male patient from Khanyar Srinagar, 80-year-old lady from Sarnal Anantanag, 50-year old woman  from Tangmarg Baramulla, 60-year old woman from Dab Ganderbal and a 44-year-old male from Karan Bagh Satwari Jammu.

Out of 12 deaths, 10 were reported from Kashmir and two from Jammu.

Meanwhile, with the addition of 353 new cases of the infection, the tally of those tested positive for Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir has now reached to 16,782.

Of the new cases, 224 are from Kashmir and 129 from Jammu division, officials said.

There are now 7,269 active cases in the Union territory, and 9,217 patients have recovered from the infection, they added.

The cases detected on Friday include 48 people who have recently returned to Jammu and Kashmir.

The officials said Kulgam district in south Kashmir recorded the highest of 83 new positive cases, followed by Shopian with 59.

Giving the district-wise breakup, officials said that, Srinagar reported 40, Baramulla two, Kulgam 83, Shopian 59, Pulwama four, Bandipora 36, Jammu 45, Kathua 29, Rajouri seven, Udhampur four, Ramban 24, Samba 13, Poonch two, Kishtwar four and Reasi one case.

In the overall tally in Kashmir, Srinagar tops the list with 3648 cases followed by Baramulla with 1740, Kulgam 1437, Shopian 1352, Anantnag 1131, Pulwama 1132, Kupwara 1008, Budgam 984, Bandipora 561, and Ganderbal 309.

In Jammu division, Jammu district has 757 cases, Rajouri 508, Ramban 463, Kathua 433, Udhampur 386, Samba 362, Doda 210, Poonch 166, Reasi 99, and Kishtwar 96.

Meanwhile, 508 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 35 from Jammu division and 473 from Kashmir division.
