Srinagar: J&K High Court on Tuesday asked the J&K administration to apprise it about the arrangements, rituals and the government orders about the conduct of Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir.

Hearing an application by a Jammu-based lawyer, Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Sanjay Dhar asked the Additional Advocate General (AAG) Aseem Sawhney to apprise the court about the government orders on the conduct of Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir.

Earlier a status report had been filed by the J&K administration through AAG which the court found “did not provide information with regard to the number of yatris who undertake the yatra”.

The court also directed the AAG to inform it about the length (duration) of the Yatra, the elevation of the route, the stoppages on the way and the arrangements for the pilgrims.

“The AAG shall apprise this court tomorrow about the rituals which are performed at the close of the Yatra and the government orders in the matter,” directed the court.

The proceedings were conducted in virtual mode.

Jammu and Kashmir is in the grip of a severe COVID-19 pandemic and religious places including mosques, temples, gurudwars and churches have already been locked down by the administration to contain the spread of the lethal virus.
