With more Covid-19 related deaths, toll in J&K reaches 160

35 SF men among 387 test positive; tally of infected reaches 9888

Srinagar: A young woman was among five who died of Covid-19 today taking the death toll in Jammu and Kashmir to 160.

A 35-year-old Covid-19 positive woman from Srinagar died at CD hospital today. She was shifted to CD hospital from SMHS hospital on July 8.

“The young woman was suffering from hypertension, acute bilateral pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome. She died at around 9 a.m. today,” Medical Superintendent of the CD hospital Dr Salim Tak said.

Two more Covid-19 infected patients died at CD hospital during past 24 hours.

Hospital sources said that that 80-year-old man from Kokernag area of the south Kashmir district died last night. He was admitted on July 4 and had bilateral pneumonia.

Another 82-year-old man from Habba Kadal area of Srinagar passed away early today.

Hospital sources said that he was admitted on July 7 and was diabetic, hypertensive and had Community Acquired Pneumonia.

Meanwhile, a 95-year-old woman died of the infection at SKIMS Bemina. She was suffering from pneumonia besides had other underlying ailments.

Earlier, a 75-year-old man from Kupwara district died at the hospital. He was suffering from Hypertension, COPD, pneumonia and had renal injury, hospital sources said

Meanwhile, the tally of Covid-19 infected people in Jammu and Kashmir reached 9888 today as 387 more including 12 SSB men, 3 soldiers and 20 CRPF men, tested positive for the deadly virus Friday.

Officials said that among the fresh infected people, 290 are from Kashmir and 97 from Jammu division.

They said that 91 more infected patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals (35 from Jammu and 56 from Kashmir Division) taking the number of total recovered persons to 5786.

“Out of 9888 positive cases, 3943 are Active Positive, 5786 have recovered and 159 have died; 15 in Jammu division and 144 in Kashmir division,” said the officials.

They further said that out of 437928 test results available, 428040 samples have been tested as negative till July 10, 2020.

“Additionally, till date 308573 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 38509 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 44 in Hospital Quarantine, 3,943 in hospital isolation and 44932 under home surveillance. Besides, 220986 persons have completed their surveillance period,” the officials added.
