Militant, soldier killed in Pulwama encounter
Pulwama: One militant and a soldier were killed in an encounter in Goosu area of Pulwama district on Tuesday while as another soldier and a Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel sustained injuries.
A police spokesman said that on a specific input generated by Pulwama Police regarding presence of militants in village Goosu area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by JKP, 53RR and 183Bn CRPF in the said area.
“During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired on the joint search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” the police spokesman said.
In the ensuing encounter, one unidentified militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter, the spokesman said, adding searches of the area were still going on.
He said that the identification and affiliation of the killed militant was yet to be ascertained however, some local sources identified the killed militant as Mudassir of Laribal, Kakapora saying he was affiliated with LeT.
The police spokesman said that during the encounter, one Army personnel identified as Naik Rajvinder Singh of 53RR was critically injured during and was shifted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar and all ranks of Police and Security Forces have paid rich tributes to the brave-heart for his supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, he said.
Besides, the spokesman said one Army personnel and one JKP personnel also sustained injuries.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes,” he added.
He further said that keeping in view the prevailing pandemic due to COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of people from inherent risk of contracting the infection, the dead body of the killed militant will be sent to Baramulla for burial.
Meanwhile, sources said that internet services have been snapped in Pulwama district.
