Appeals recovered Covid-19 infected to do the same saying, ‘it’s harmless and can save lives’

Srinagar: Renowned Urologist of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Saleem Wani today donated his blood plasma for the treatment of a COVID-19 positive patient admitted at SKIMS, Soura.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Saleem was himself tested positive for COVID-19. He, however, recovered from the infection and after recovery has joined his duties at the hospital.

While talking to Kashmir Images on phone, Dr Saleem appealed all those, who have recovered from the infection, to come forward and donate blood plasma.

“It is safe. It will have no adverse impact on your health and well being. I after donating am again back doing my job. So please donate blood plasma, you will be saving precious lives,” Dr Saleem said in his message.

Speaking about his own experience, Dr Saleem told Kashmir Images that given the ill-conceived stigmatization surrounding the disease, after donating blood plasma, he is feeling “unburdened, happy, relaxed and at peace with himself.”

In absence of a treatment or a vaccine, the blood plasma therapy has been showing promising results worldwide in treating Coronavirus infected patients.

In this back drop, medical experts suggest that the Union Territory administration should take a cue from people like Dr Saleem and encourage those who have recovered and will recover to come forward and donate blood plasma.

“Better late than never, the UT administration should not waste more time and establish plasma bank here forthwith,” said a medical expert, suggesting the administration should launch an awareness campaign about such donations though media.
