6 more die of Covid-19, toll in J&K reaches 107

UT records 198 new Covid-19 cases, number rises to 7,695

Srinagar: Kashmir on Wednesday reported six more deaths due to Covid-19, taking the fatality count due to 107 in J&K.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura said a 50-year-old woman from Kandi Kupwara died at the hospital today. “The patient was admitted on June 30 as a case of carcinoma of unknown origin with Right l/l dvt with anemia,” he said, adding, the patient had undergone peritoneal biopsy and developed post-operation sepsis.

She was admitted in medical observation on June 27 with complaints of vomiting and hematochesia. Her Covid-19 swab was taken during that admission which came out positive following which patient was shifted to IDB. “She expired on at 05:30 p.m. because of cardiopulmonary arrest.”

Meanwhile, 45-year-old man from Undoo Shangus Anantnag also died “due to cardiopulmonary arrest” at 6 p.m. at the same hospital.

Admitted on June 28, officials said patient was “k/c/o AML.” He came out positive or the Covid-19 on June 28.

Earlier, a 50-year-old woman from Eidgah area of Srinagar also died at the tertiary-care hospital, 12 days after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

Medical Superintendent said that the woman was admitted on June 19 in Infectious Disease Block “as a case of hypertension, hypothyroidism with community acquired pneumonia with Type 1 respiratory failure.” She expired on at 6 a.m. today, he said.

Two more Covid-19 patients died at the CD hospital. While one of them was a resident of Sopore area of Baramulla district, another belonged to Bijbhera area of Anantnag district.

“Both of them were more than 70 years old and had bilateral pneumonia with other comorbidities,” officials said.

Meanwhile, a 54-year-old Covid-19 positive man from Jammu’s Shama chak died at the Army hospital Udhampur.

With the deaths, 107 people so far have succumbed to the virus in J&K— 94 from the Valley and 13 from Jammu division.

Srinagar district with 25 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (17), Kulgam (13), Shopian (12), Anantnag  (9), eight each from Jammu and Budgam,  Kupwara (6), Pulwama (4) while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Poonch, Doda, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 198 fresh Covid-19 cases, raising the tally in the union territory to 7,695, officials said.

The union territory reported 198 new coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, the officials said.

While 19 of these were from the Jammu region, 179 were from the Valley, they added.

There are now 2,734 active cases in the union territory, while 4,856 patients have recovered from the infection.

The cases detected on Wednesday included 25 persons who had returned to the union territory recently, the officials said.

They said Baramulla district in north Kashmir recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases — 49 — on Wednesday. It was followed by 32 each in Srinagar and Shopian districts.

Six districts — Pooch, Kathua,  Reasi, Kishtwar, Ramban and Bandipora  — did not have any fresh cases detected in the past 24 hours, the officials said.

With Wednesday’s fresh cases, the total number of coronavirus-infected persons in Jammu and Kashmir reached 7,695.

“Of these, 6,065 are in Kashmir and 1,630 in the Jammu region,” the officials said.
