PDP, NC hail decision

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has finally decided to do away with SRO 202 regarding the appointment in government services.

The Government’s spokesperson, Rohit Kansal tweeted: “Administrative Council Chaired by LG Sh. G Murmu takes historic decision. No fresh appointments under SRO 202.. Probabation period of old appointees reduced from 5 years to 2 years. Massive step toward employee welfare.”

JKPDP spokesperson, Mohit Bhan tweeted: “Welcoming the much awaited reform with regard to recruitment policy in J&K. It was only a temporary measure to reach out to wider section of youth for recruitment in government jobs. This has certainly brought a wave of joy among the youth.”

Meanwhile, National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today described the revocation of SRO 202 as a triumph of those appointed under the provision in Jammu and Kashmir and those aspiring for employment in the government sector.

“Better late than never, the course correction was the only rightful option for the administration as the SRO 202 lacked logic and reason”, Rana said in his reaction to the reported decision of the administration in dispensing with the rule in deference of the wishes of thousands of stakeholders, who were agitated over the period for this injustice.

Rana hoped that the administration will now release all the emoluments to the appointees under SRO 202 which would have accrued to them in accordance with the earlier rules. This will be the least to balm their miseries they and their families have undergone over the years, he said, adding, administration should come up with a road map in this regard and not precipitate the situation to such an extent that the affected employees are forced to press for their dues.

The Provincial President complimented the stakeholders for their resilience and single-mindedness with which they stood firm for their rights.
