Parents of students of Pvt schools hit streets, demand fee waiver
Srinagar: Parents of the students studying in different private schools of Srinagar Friday hit streets here urging the Lieutenant Governor administration to wave off monthly tuition fee for lockdown period.
Holding placards which read “Administration wake up we are dying, wave off monthly tuition fee” dozens of parents whose children study in various schools of the city, while adhering to social distancing, assembled at Karan Nagar area and held protest to seek wave off in monthly tuition fee for lockdown period.
They said the lockdown which was imposed in the month of March to contain deadly coronavirus affected everyone equally in the valley and that the government in view of the circumstances must come up with a breather for distressed parents.
“As the situation began to improve in Kashmir, private schools also began to send text messages asking parents to clear tuition fee for shut-down period which I think is sheer blackmailing on the part of the private schools,” said Manzoor Ahmad a parent.
He said the administration should look into the issue.
“Most of the parents who have assembled here are shopkeepers or private employees and cannot afford school fee of their wards. We are not able to feed our families as we have been out of job for three months,” he added.
The protesters threatened to hit streets along with their wards in case the government failed to announce waiver in monthly tuition fee for the lockdown period.
