2 more COVID-19 infected die; toll in J&K rises to 33
With 117 fresh COVID-19 cases, tally reaches to 2,718
Srinagar: Two more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the union territory to 33, officials said here on Tuesday.
The fresh fatalities include a 25-year-old man from Kupwara and an 80-year-old woman from Baramulla, they said.
The test report of the man, who had died at a hospital here on Monday, came back positive for COVID-19 this afternoon, they said.
He was suffering from acute pneumonia. He is the youngest patient to die due to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
The officials said the woman, who also died on Monday, has also tested positive for COVID-19.
With these deaths, the death toll due to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 33, they said.
Meanwhile, top pulmonologist Naveed Nazir Shah, who was leading a COVID hospital here, tested positive for the respiratory disease late on Monday night.
“I’m overwhelmed and deeply humbled by the wishes of all my known and unknown well wishers praying for my recovery… tested positive.. followed #protocol and got #admitted … thank you everyone ..remember in prayers,” Shah said in a tweet.
He, however, expressed sadness over some reports that he had doctored his report to avoid duty.
“But (I) am saddened by some reporting my report has been feigned to avoid duties … I will be the last person to do that … I’m in quarantine and working from here … available for all possible deliverable services,” he said.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir recorded 117 fresh COVID-19 cases, including 13 pregnant women, taking the total number of infected persons to 2,718 in the Union Territory, officials said.
Of the 117 new cases, 40 are from Jammu and 77 from Kashmir, they said.
Thirteen pregnant women over a dozen police personnel besides the pulmonologist from a government hospital here are among the fresh cases, the officials said.
The total number of cases in Jammu and Kashmir has now reached 2,718.
“Of these, 2,076 are in Kashmir and 642 in the Jammu region,” the officials added.
At present, there are 1,732 active cases in the Union Territory, while 953 patients have recovered from the disease, they said.
The officials said that till date 185119 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 43635 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 43 in Hospital Quarantine, 1732 in hospital isolation and 50220 under home surveillance. Besides, 89456 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup, the officials said that Bandipora has 151 positive cases (including 05 cases reported today) with 16 Active Positive, 134 recovered, 01 death; Srinagar has 305 positive cases (including 15 cases reported today) with 157 Active Positive, 141 recovered, 07 deaths; Anantnag district has 349 positive cases, with 218 Active Positive, 126 recovered (including 02 cases recovered today), 05 deaths; Baramulla has 245 positive cases (including 07 cases reported today) with 136 Active Positive, 103 recovered, 06 deaths; Shopian has 181 positive cases (including 07 cases reported today) with 70 Active Positive, 108 recovered and 03 deaths; Kupwara has 289 positive cases (including 10 cases reported today) with 212 Active Positive, 76 recovered (including 01 case recovered today) and 01 death; Budgam has 119 positive cases (including 08 cases reported today), with 56 Active Positive and 61 recovered cases and 02 deaths; Ganderbal has 34 positive cases with 10 Active cases and 24 recoveries; Kulgam has 311 positive cases (including 11 cases reported today), with 275 Active Positive and 32 recoveries and 04 deaths and Pulwama reported 92 positive cases (including 14 cases reported today) with 79 active positive and 13 recovered.
Similarly, Jammu has 157 positive cases (including 13 cases reported today) with 114 active positive cases and 41 recoveries and 02 deaths; Udhampur has 69 positive cases (including 02 cases reported today) with 42 active positive cases, 26 recovered and 01 death; Samba has 45 positive cases (including 01 case reported today) with 32 Active Positive and 13 recoveries; Rajouri has 36 positive cases (including 03 cases reported today) with 31 active positive cases and 05 recovered; Kathua has 80 positive cases (including 02 cases reported today) with 53 Active positive and 27 recovered (including 02 cases recovered today); Kishtwar has 12 positive cases with 09 active positive cases and 03 recovered (including 02 cases recovered today); Ramban has 153 positive cases (including 09 cases reported today) with 137 active positive and 16 recoveries; Reasi has 14 positive cases with 11 active positive and 03 recovered, Poonch has 49 active positive cases (including 09 cases reported today) while Doda has 27 positive cases (including 01 case reported today) with 25 active positive case and 01 recovered and 01 death.
Three immediate contacts of ‘Covid-19 positive IAS officer’ test negative
Srinagar: Three days after a senior IAS ranked officer tested positive for Covid-19, the samples of three immediate contacts of the officer tested negative, sources said.
Sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that three officers including Zubair Ahmad (Secretary Tourism & Culture), Mehmood Shah (Director Industries & Commerce) and Tufail Mattoo (Vice Chairman LAWDA), who were kept into administrative quarantine, turned out to be negative.
“The team of doctors took swab samples of all officers who later on tested negative on Tuesday morning”, sources disclosed.
Notably on Saturday evening a senior IAS ranked officer tested positive after which authorities kept all immediate contacts of the officer into administrative quarantine.
Soon after the incident red alert was sounded in Jammu Secretariat which was sprayed with disinfectants on the following day by officials of SMC Jammu and teams of Disaster Management Authority.
