On Sunday, 11 new cases reported from Kashmir

Srinagar: An employee of Government Medical College Srinagar and one more staff nurse at Super specialty hospital (SSH) Shreenbagh were among eleven people who tested positive for novel coronavirus in Kashmir on Sunday.

Nodal Officer Dr Salim told GNS that 367 samples were tested at Microbiology Lab of CD Hospital Srinagar and eight out of them returned positive for the pathogen.

Among them, sources said that five are from Srinagar and include three contacts of a COVID positive doctor from SSH, one traveler of Nehru Park and an employee of GMC Srinagar. The other cases include two from Shopian, contacts of previous patients admitted in JLNM Hospital Srinagar while another is staff nurse from SSH here, a resident of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Dr Saleem said traveler of Nehru Park had traveled from Jammu by road and was intercepted by Police following which he was sampled at TRC and taken into Quarantine at Nehru Park. He is basically a resident Hidi Kupwara, he added.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura Professor Farooq Jan told GNS that three out of 685 samples tested at the hospital’s virology lab came out to be positive. They include 45-year-old man from Shopian, 50-year-old from Kanlibagh Baramulla and a 20-year-old youth from Gonipora Handwara in northern Kupwara district.

Meanwhile, two COVID-19 patients, admitted in Trauma Hospital Bijbehara Anantnag, were discharged after their two repeat samples were tested negative.

Patients were discharged by CMO Anantnag in presence of Dy. CMO Anantnag and Medical Superintendent SDH Bijbehara (I/c Trauma Hospital Bijbehara), the sources added. (GNS)
