Baramulla: A leopard was killed by locals after it attacked a herd of sheep and farmers in a nearby nursery area of Doodbugh Sultanpora village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Locals said that the leopard came from the nearby forest area and attacked the flock of sheep, farmers rearing the sheep and a dog guarding the herd. “The people working in the nearby forests overpowered the leopard and killed it with sticks.”

The wildlife officials said that transgression in wild habitat due to increasing human interference is the main cause for the animals to venture towards the human dominated regions. They say that enormous and wanton felling of the trees and dearth of food forces the animals to venture into the man occupied territories.

Meanwhile, a police party reached the spot and took the dead body of wild animal into custody.
