4 ‘abandoned’ structures collapsed at Rainwari

Srinagar: Four abandoned residential structures collapsed at Rainawari area of old city during the night intervening Tuesday, officials said.

Four residential houses situated at Sikandarpora area of Rainawari suddenly got razed to the ground late last night creating panic in the area, however no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.

Witnesses said the mud structures were abandoned by their owners which finally collapsed without causing any harm to the people living around.

Locals however blamed Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for the incident saying the civic body failed to dismantle these dilapidated structures despite repeated requests.

They said the owners of these mud structures had abandoned them a way back and have been residing in other localities.

“We approached higher-ups of SMC many a times and brought the issue into their notice for immediate action, however they did not took the issue seriously till all four structures razed to the ground. It was like an earthquake and we are thankful to almighty that no loss of life or injury took place,” a local informed ‘Kashmir Images’ on phone.

A senior official while confirming the incident said four old dilapidated structures collapsed at Sikandarpora area of Rainawari late last night. He also said the owners of these houses who had abandoned them will be served with a show cause notice shortly.

The owners have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Gilkar, Noor Mohammad Gilkar, Mohammad Yusuf Gilkar and Ghulam Qadir Gilkar. A formal case has also been registered at police station Rainawari in this regard and investigation started.
