SPO, civilian killed in militant attack

Baramulla: Two persons including a special police officer (SPO) were killed on Wednesday in a militant attack in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.

The militants opened fire on a police party at Warpora in Sopore area this evening, resulting in injuries to SPOs Wajahat Ahmad and Showkat Khandey and a civilian, the officials said.

The injured persons were taken to a hospital where Wajahat and civilian Umar Subhan Wagay were declared dead, they said.

Security forces have cordoned off the area to track down the assailants, the officials added.

Encounter between militants, security forces on in Budgam

Srinagar, Mar 04: An encounter broke out on Wednesday between militants and security forces in Budgam district of central Kashmir, police said.

The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Dooniwara area, following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said during the searches, the militants hiding in a house opened fire that was retaliated by the security forces.

“The exchange of fire was going on till last reports came in,” the official said, adding that there were no casualties reported so far.
