Substantial drop in number and activities of militants: DGP

Baramulla: Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh on Friday said that there is a substantial drop in the number of militants and their activities in Kashmir and the security situation has improved since last six months with sharp decline in violence related incidents.

Asserting that police is on a mission to build peace in the valley, he said, “ The number of militants and their activities have witnessed substantial dip. Security forces at different levels are working towards peace building.”

While interacting with media on the side lines of inaugural function of Model Women Police Station in Baramulla town,  Singh said, “It is our mission to further build up peace  and create peaceful atmosphere.”

He said thousands of people have lost their live due to militancy during the last 30 years in Kashmir. “Militants have carried out many crimes in the valley during this time,” he said.

He said that J&K Police along with other security forces need to be more focused and determined for maintaining peace in the region. The DGP also hailed the role of security agencies while dealing with anti-militancy operations, especially J&K police for improving the security situation in Kashmir valley after the centre Government abrogated the Article 370.

He was on a visit to North Kashmir where he gave commendation medals to number of police officers and stressed upon them to continue their good work with more dedication.
