Water logging inundates uptown as rains lash Srinagar
Officials say, water logged areas in Srinagar cleared
Srinagar, Aug 01: Heavy downpour in parts of Kashmir on Thursday created massive waterlogging in many areas of uptown Srinagar resulting in huge traffic snarls.
Light rainfall started in the city around 7:30 am, but the downpour got heavier as the day progressed, leading to waterlogging of roads in many areas of the city, including the commercial hub of Lal Chowk, Residency Road, Polo View and adjoining areas. Water logging was witnessed in Babademb, Jawahar Nagar, Badami Bagh Cantonment, Umarabad, HMT, Mustafaabad, Qamarwari, Samander Bagh, Bemina, Mahjoor Nagar, Batamaloo, Khanyar, Maisuma and many other places.
Severe traffic jams were reported in the city as pedestrians were seen wading through the knee-high waters.
The district administration pressed dewatering pumps into service to clear the roads.
People in different parts of City were seen hurling choicest invectives and abuses at the SMC and UEED for the faulty drainage system.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Command Srinagar Thursday rushed a number of teams to clear water logged areas in different parts of Srinagar city.
In a statement, Fire and Emergency Services said that they had pressed their men and machinery into service and by afternoon most of the water logged areas in the Srinagar city were cleared. The Srinagar city witnessed heavy rains in early morning hours on Thursday leaving many areas of the city inundated.
A number of teams under the overall supervision of Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services were rushed towards various areas including Regal Chowk, Polo View, TRC, Palladium Galli, Exhibition Crossing, Ghanta Ghar, Jawahar Nagar, Shivpora Church Lane, College of Education.
Local administration and public had appreciated the role of Fire and Emergency Services.
