Governor visits Nubra, holds public meeting

LEH, JUNE 30: On the second day of his tour to Leh district, Governor Satya Pal Malik held a public meeting at Hunder village of Nubra region yesterday and interacted with various delegations including that of Councillors of LAHDC; Panchayat members; former Legislators and Councillors; Nambardars etc.

Governor observed that all demands will be given appropriate consideration and said that his Administration will leave no stone unturned to fulfil the developmental aspirations of the people of Ladakh.

Governor emphasized significance of empowering Local Bodies in Urban and Rural areas for holistic development of the State and added that the recently concluded week long “Back to Village” programme was one such effort of the present Government to reach out to people at their door steps. He expressed satisfaction over the successful implementation of the programme in the entire State.  He noted that the visit of officers during this programme to Panchayats of the State has tremendously helped in building public’s confidence in Government.

Governor mentioned that a number of initiatives have been taken by his Administration for ensuring transparency and accountability in functioning of the Government departments including  recruitment process for government jobs. He added that Government is in the process of creating a mobile based App that would ensure quick disposal of cases at different levels and will also help in monitoring the movement of files.

Expressing serious concern on prevailing corruption at different levels in Government Departments, Governor observed that nobody will be spared if found involved in corrupt practices irrespective of his or her position.

Governor appreciated Ms. Avny Lavasa, Deputy Commissioner, Leh and Sargun Shukla SSP, Leh for effective and prompt disposal of public services.

Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Member Parliament Ladakh, expressed gratitude to Governor for his special care and generosity towards Ladakh region. He recounted the major  initiatives for Ladakh  taken by Governor’s Administration and said that the people of Ladakh have witnessed an extra momentum on development front under his able guidance.

Namgyal on this occasion strongly advocated for granting separate district status to Nubra and Zanskar region considering the strategic geographical location, area specific problems and backwardness of these two regions of Ladakh.

Councillor Panamik Tsering Samdup on behalf of Nubra region submitted a memorandum to Governor with a charter of demands that included creation of separate district for Nubra and the Nubra Development Authority to be made functional at the earliest; finalization of cost estimates of Transmission works under PMDP-15 in Ladakh region; inclusion of Nubra Airport under UDAN scheme, sanctioning of Trisha-Thoise multipurpose Hydel project; granting of funds for completion of Shatse-Daksna bridge and Udmaroo bridge; augmentation of drinking water facility in Nubra; strengthening of Degree College and SDH Diskit and upgradation of PHC Turtuk; improving mobile connectivity in the area; opening of IGNOU Centre in Nubra, channelization of Shayok and Siachen rivers; reducing electricity cuts; making functional Block offices at Sumoor and Bogdang; permanent solution for training of various Nallahs in Nubra and construction of motorable bridge connecting Deskit and Lakjung over Shayok river and Sasoma to Aranu over Siachen river.

Ex. MLA Nubra Deldan Namgyal also sought Governor’s attention on important demands of Nubra region including separate district for Nubra.

A delegation from Turtuk area headed by Councillor Mehdi also submitted memorandum to Governor and demanded for opening of Degree College in Turtuk; creation of separate MLA seat for Turtuk; upgradation of CHC; construction of Turtuk-Hanu road; demarcation of Ladakh-Baltistan border etc.

Moreover, the Sarpanches of various Panchayats also put forth memorandums to the Governor highlighting specific problems of their respective Halqas.
