Ladakh witnesses overwhelming response on Day 2 of ‘Back to Village’ prog

Div Com Ladakh interacts with PRI members, takes stock of dev needs, public grievances at Sankoo Sub Division

SRINAGAR, JUNE 21: Under the first leg of ‘Back to Village’ programme on second day overwhelming response was witnessed in the Gram Sabhas and the interactive sessions held in various panchayat halqas of  both Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh division.

In district Leh, all the district officers deployed as visiting officers to different panchayat halqas conducted Gram Sabhas and held deliberations with the villagers of Waris, Fastan, Chamshen, Charasa, Udmaru of Nubra Sub Division and Tia in Khaltsi Sub Division.

Mohammad Yaqoob Malik, Under Secretary to the Rural Development Department visited Stok, Chuchot and Leh block and sought feedback about the implementation of welfare schemes in these areas. He also visited to Primary Health Centres, Primary and Middle Schools and Anganwadi centres and checked the Mid-Day Meal and nutrition provided to the students and the children.

In Khaltsi, SDM Tsering Mutup conducted inspection of various Government institions and interacted with the locals along with officers of various Departments. He also listened to issues of the locals and registered their demands for development of the area.

In district Kargil, during the 2nd day of ‘Back to Village’ programme Gram Sabhas were conducted at Goshan and Purtikchay, Kanoor, Thangdumbur Sankoo and Mulbekh. Prior to the Gram Sabhas letter of the Prime Minister was read out. During the Sabhas MGNREGA job cards and other certificates were distributed among the beneficiaries followed by interaction with PRI members.

Visits to the schools, Anganwadi centres and hospitals by the visiting officers, inauguration of development works, cleanliness drives were held at Purtikchay, Damsna, Goshan Drass, and Pashkum. Inauguration of Farm Houses and distribution of vegetable seedlings and other agriculture related activities were also held in Gram Panchayats across the district.

Divisional Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas today conducted a tour of Sankoo Sub Division. He was accompanied by the Sub Divisional Magistrate Sankoo Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani besides other concerned officers during the tour.

The Div Com interacted with the Sarpanchs, Panchs, Namberdars and villagers at different Panchayat Ghars in various Gram Panchayats including Saliskote, Lankarchey, Nagma Kousar Sankoo and inquired about the developmental needs and grievances of people in these areas.

Biswas also took brief from the officers deployed to different Gram Panchayats about compilation of data regarding the urgent public demands, overall assessment of public services, level of planning as well as the developmental needs of the people in terms of the availability of drinking water, power facilities, healthcare, education, economy, public distribution system empowerment of women and other related aspects.

Speaking on the occasion, the Div Com said that through Back to Village program the Government aims to empower the Grassroots Panchayats and to strengthen the functioning of the PRIs to ensure effective service delivery to people at their doorsteps.

Biswas also met a number of public delegations from Nagma Kousar, Thangdumbur, Thasgam, Thuina and adjoining villages at PWD Rest House Sankoo and listened to their grievances and demands.

The delegations projected a number of demands which among others the establishment of Additional DC Office, Degree College, opening up of SKUAST Branch and Fire Services Centre, repair of water supply scheme of Sankoo town, blacktopping of Sankoo Umba Road, deployment of Physician, Orthopedician and Surgeon at Community Health Centre Sankoo on rotation basis, early start of work on languishing projects, repair of irrigation khuls, up gradation of schools, deployment of lecturers and teachers and other related demands.
