Former MLA demands release of prisoners ahead of Eid

Srinagar, May 30: Awami Itihad Party (AIP) Chairman and former MLA Langate, Er Abdul Rashid Thursday demanded unconditional release of all political prisoners including JKLF Chairman Mohamad Yasin Malik as a goodwill gesture ahead of upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

Er Rashid while addressing a press conference at Kashmir Press Club here also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond positively to the repeated gestures of his Pakistani counterpart, Imran Khan to resolve all pending issues including that of Kashmir politically.

He said it’s high time for Prime Minister of India who won the recently concluded Parliamentary elections with huge margin to act as a true statesman to resolve vexed Kashmir issues by holding a meaningful political dialogue with all stakeholders including Hurriyat.

“I request Prime Minister Modi to prove his statesmanship by resolving all pending issues politically with Pakistan and other stakeholders through a meaningful political dialogue,” Rashid said adding all the political prisoners from Yasin Malik to Qasim Faktoo and Asiya Andrabi must be released ahead of upcoming Eid as a goodwill gesture.

Regarding recently concluded parliamentary elections, AIP Chief while thanking people of north Kashmir for reposing their trust in him by coming out in large number to cast their vote in his favor said thirty five percent of youth in north Kashmir chose him as their representative.

He said in Sopore town he appeared to be on number two as the people in apple town also voted for him and proved that Rashid is not an ‘intelligence man’.

Rashid said he secured 1491 votes in ballet voting while other parties including PC, PDP, NC and BJP managed to get a handful of votes.

The former legislator also said that his party was able to won five assembly segments in Baramullah constituency and that he would work hard to emerge as number in the entire constituency.

He whoever did not spoke about his party alliance with Dr Shah Faesal led Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement saying “I single handedly reached to the people and even missed few places and despite that people voted for me”.
