Journalists remember Ashok Sodhi on 11th death anniversary

Jammu: The journalist fraternity today remembered Ashok Sodhi – a photojournalist on his eleventh death anniversary, who sacrificed his life while performing professional duties during an encounter at Samba on May 11, 2008.

The Press Club of Jammu, this morning organised a simple function to pay homage and tributes to late photojournalist. Media men from both electronic and print assembled at the venue and lightened candles besides paying floral tributes to him.

Speaking on the occasion, President Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar remembered his days with the late Sodhi and termed him as a professional man.

“Every year a photography competition is also organised in the memory of Late Ashok Sodhi, titled as Ashok Sodhi Memorial Photography Award,” he said adding that it is an annual feature now.

Bureau Chief, Zee News, Raju Kerni in his address said that Sodhi was not only known for his professionalism but was also actively involved in social activities.

Secretary General, Press Club of Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, also spoke on the occasion and advised the working journalists to be careful and alert while performing their professional duties. “The budding journalists especially those who are not equipped with safety gadgets, must remain cautious while covering the incidents of encounters and law and order related problems,” said the Secretary.

The journalists also observed two minutes silence.

Others present on the occasion included former President Press Club of Jammu and Senior Journalist, Manu Shrivatsa, Nishikant Khajuria, Zaffar Choudhary, Pawan Sharma, Channi Anand, Dinesh Mahajan, Deepak Khajuria, Raman Raina, Pradeep Bakshi, Mohit Kandhari, Surjeet Singh and Vishal Bharti.
