4 Shopian youth arrested in Sopore

Sopore, May 11: Four youths from Shopian area of south Kashmir were arrested by police in Sopore police on Friday on charges on inciting violence in the town over the death of a local Islamic State militant in an encounter in the southern district.

According to reports, police on tip off arrested four youth including one government employee from Nowpora area of Sopore, who according to them were “inciting the violence and forcing youths to pelt stones and disturb law and order across town”.

A police official told ‘Kashmir Images’ that four youths were arrested yesterday when one local Islamic state militant Ishfaq Ahmad was killed in Shopian. “These four youth had came to Sopore with an aim to disturb law and order here, however we arrested all of them before the slain militant’s funeral and booked them for stone pelting.”

The arrested youth were identified as Rasik Ahmad Hajam, son of Abdul Gani; Arshad Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Rashid; Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Aziz, and Aadil Ali, son of Ali Mohammad Shiekh, all residents of Shopian.

Police have registered a case (FIR no. 117/2019) in this regard and the arrested youth are being questioned, officials said.
