The painting collection housed in the SPS Museum provides a peep into the socio-cultural as well as political past of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. There are some very rare miniature paintings depicting various regions of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and are a visual history of cultural ethos shared by the people.

There are approximately 700 paintings in number, mainly miniatures which belong to Kangra, Basohli, Jammu, Pahari, Mughal, Rajasthani and Kashmiri school of paintings. Besides these, there are some rich and important European paintings displayed.

The collection includes a very good set of world famous Rasmanjri series from Basohli of the 18th century A.D. The museum also contains a good collection of oil portraits of   Dogra rulers’ etc. Besides, the museum also owns a rare collection of Kashmiri Banners and Ladakhi Thankas.
