Srinagar, April 28: Sikh leader Sikh Leader Indumeet Singh on Sunday demanded the establishment of Punjabi Department at Kashmir University (KU).

In a statement issued here, Indumeet said that there are separate departments for almost every language at Kashmir University but it is only Punjabi language which has no department of its own.

“It is a long pending demand of Punjabi students in Kashmir that a Punjabi department should be established at Kashmir University,” Indumeet Singh said.

He further said: “After completing their graduation, the Punjabi students have to move outside Kashmir for further studies and it is not possible for every student to move outside Kashmir for different reasons.”

While taking a jibe at the mainstream political parties of the J&K State, Indumeet Singh said that political parties have just made hollow promises with regard to the establishment of Punjabi department at KU.

“I urge the J&K Governor state to address our genuine demand,” Singh added.
