Srinagar: Security forces on Friday evening launched a cordon and search operation in Hizb ul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo’s native village in Awantipora township of Pulwama district, sources said.

Sources said that the operation was launched in Beighpora village following inputs about the presence of militants.

With a large number of security forces involved in the operation, forces launched house-to-house searches in the area.

Jammu & Kashmir police, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have jointly launched the operation, said an official.

Naikoo, sources said, is the most wanted militant in Kashmir at the moment.
