Pakistan condemns confinement of Yasin Malik

Srinagar/Islamabad, Apr 22: Joint separatist leadership has called for a Valley-wide protest shutdown on Tuesday (April 23) against the “ill-treatment” meted out to the ailing and incarcerated JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik in Delhi.

The spokesman said that the shutdown is also against the “ongoing aggression against Kashmiri resistance leaders, activists, senior businessmen, trade union leaders, kith and kins of resistance leaders and other people from different walks of life.”

The spokesman added that NIA’s “highhandedness” has in fact forced Malik to go on hunger strike and today his hunger strike has entered into the 12th day. “The life of ailing Malik, who is admitted at RML Hospital Delhi, is in danger.”

The leadership appealed the people to observe a complete shutdown on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

Meanwhile, Pakistan on Monday criticised India for arresting and confining Muhammad Yasin Malik in connection with a case related to the funding of militant and separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

Malik, whose organisation JKLF was banned last month by the Centre, is also facing two CBI cases. These relate to the kidnapping of Rubaiya Saeed, daughter of then Union Home minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, in 1989, and the killing of four IAF personnel in 1990.

“Pakistan strongly condemns the continuing incarceration and deteriorating health of Yasin Malik since February 22 on trumped up charges,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a press release.

“We expect the Government of India to ensure the wellbeing of Malik, including provision of adequate health-care,” it said. (With PTI Inputs)
