1 killed, 40 injured in two road accidents

Srinagar, Apr 21: A woman was killed and two others injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge on Sunday in Ramban district while thirty-eight people were injured in a similar accident in Udhampur district.

Reports said that a vehicle (JK19-2566) on its way from Chanderkote to Kunfer this morning while crossing Kunfer bridge area rolled down into deep gorge.

They said that one woman identified as Veena Devi (36), wife of Yashpal, resident of Sarthi, Chanderkote died on the spot while two others — Shilpa Devi and Shashi Pal — suffered injuries and admitted to the district hospital.

Meanwhile, police have taken the cognizance of the incident.

Thirty-eight people were injured after a bus they were travelling in met with an accident in Udhampur district of Jammu.

The spokesman said that a bus coming from Khourgali to Udhampur met with an accident near Moungri area as the driver lost control over the wheel and rolled into deep gorge resulting in injuries to 38 passengers.

District Administration with the help of local people carried out the rescue operation and shifted all injured to a nearby hospital. 12 injured persons were referred from PHC Moungri to District Hospital Udhampur on Saturday. From there five injured persons were later referred to GMC Jammu.
