Saving our posterity

Gone are the times when children would spend their time playing outdoor games and let others join them in those cheerful games. Now, that love is no more, that happiness remains a mere memory- these days we witness that a child who was supposed to be with his or her parents ends up using various substances which includes tobacco- and in many cases some banned stuff, therefore putting their health at stake, besides inviting repercussions too.

A few days back, I was invited to attend the wedding of one of my relatives and I came to noticed that some children had gathered on the terrace and were doing something strange. The ‘crawling’ children would rub ‘weed’ over the hands and put it into a cigarette, thereupon puffing it with no disquietude if somebody could forge through. I was shocked seeing them doing such a life-ruining activity!

I’m sure that every one of us comes across such incidents and we know that drug addiction has gripped the whole world in its strong folds. It has become a norm. The onus, therefore, is on parents to take some steps before an entire generation falls an easy prey to such contagious and baleful habits. Parents have the most important role to play as they are the first contact for a child and can easily  sweep off the predicament, from its core, which the children seem to have been trapped in. They are the most influential of all.  However, there are certain precautions that parents need to take and ensure that their ward is alright and hasn’t fallen for any bad habit.

Similarly, there are other peer groups and influence groups that need to assert and ensure that our youth doesn’t fall for such life threatening habits. We, as a society, have a responsibility towards each and every single person and everyone’s well being must be our motive. If we let loose  and do not intervene thinking that it is the neighbors child who is stuck in drug addiction, tomorrow the same child might influence others and spread the disease.
