Pakistani spouses of ex-militants protest in Srinagar, demand travel documents
Srinagar, Mar 29: A group of Pakistani spouses of former Kashmiri militants who had returned under the government’s rehabilitation scheme for surrendered militants on Friday staged a protest in Srinagar seeking travel documents to visit Pakistan.
The group of women such who assembled here for the protest appealed to the Indian and Pakistani Prime Ministers to intervene in the matter and allow them to travel to Pakistan.
The protesting women said that they have been left at the mercy of God as they were denied rights granted to every citizen.
“We have been holding protests since 2012 but nobody is bothered about our demands. We urge the government to issue us permanent resident certificate and travel documents,” said a protester. “We have suffered a lot already during past many years,” she added.
These women had arrived in Kashmir along with their husbands after then chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a rehabilitation programme for surrendered militants in 2010.
