India will have to shun coercive tactics and resolve Kashmir issue: Sehrai

Srinagar, March 28: Alleging Delhi for ‘unleashing repressive measures in Kashmir’ and paying rich tributes to the slain militants, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL)  has said that the situation would only deteriorate further if India didn’t realize the Kashmir was a political issue and needed a political solution.

In a press release issued here, JRL said that the human rights violations have continued unabated as youth and activists were being arrested and booked under PSA and send to jails outside Kashmir on a daily basis.

The press release further added that the situation in Kashmir was very intimidating and instilled fear of reprisals by the authorities in view of the continued ‘illegal crackdown’ on ‘resistance and religious leaders’, activists, human rights violations and CASO’s.

While seeking intervention by the International Human rights bodies, JRL said that the EU parliament member’s letter to GOI that expressed grave concern over Kashmir situation including rights violations, asking for repeal of AFSPA and PSA as well as ban on pellet guns and taking cognisance of the UNHRC report on Kashmir, was a welcome move.

While paying tributes to the armed youth in various encounters across Kashmir, JRL said that the killing spree was painful and that the leadership would want that no Kashmiri youth is pushed to take to arms and lose life. JRL also appealed Govt. of India to shun its policy of ‘revenge’ and resolve Kashmir issue peacefully in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of people of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, expressing anguish and pain over the loss of youths during the encounters in shopian and Handwara and paid tributes to the slain.

In a press release issued here, Sehrai said that Kashmir was a political and humanitarian issue that deserved political resolution in its historical background adding that the ‘military might’ can never resolve the issue. “People of Kashmir want a peaceful political resolution. India must resolve the Kashmir dispute through political measures putting an end to bloodshed,” Sehrai added.

Stating that the entire region was facing threat because of Kashmir issue, Sehrai criticized New Delhi for allegedly undermining the ‘dispute and muzzle all voices by extremely coercive measures’.
