Contingent Paid Workers stage protest in Sgr over non-payment of salary
‘It’s a paltry amount which does not exceed 300 rupees a year’
Srinagar, March 25: Contingent Paid Workers (CPW) from frontier Kupwara district who work as cooks, sweepers, watchman’s today staged protest against the government for withholding their salary.
Protesters mostly women amid sloganeering “we want justice, release our salary” this afternoon appeared at Lal Chowk here to highlight the problems being faced by them.
The protesting CPW alleged that government has not released their salary over the past one year thus forcing them to hit streets for justice.
“We take rupees 100 per month while some of our colleagues receive rupees 25 or 50 as sweepers, cooks and watchman’s and the irony is our salary which is not more than 1000 rupees is withheld,” said Abdul Rashid.
He said around 70 CPW who works in Education department in Kupwara perform their duty with utmost honesty and dedication, however the authorities makes to run form pillar to post to get their hard earned money released.
Maryam, a Sweeper, said salary of 25 rupees per month is yet to be released, “isn’t this injustice with us, it’s a paltry amount which does not exceed 300 rupees a year, but it’s unfortunate on the part of the government to force us to travel from Kupwara to Srinagar to highlight our miseries,” she added.
Meanwhile protesters threatened to go for protracted hunger strike incase their wages are not released forthwith.
