HAS B’la organizes awareness prog on eve of ‘World Consumer Rights Day’

Wagoora, March 15: Human Aid Society Baramulla Kashmir (HASBK) – a non-governmental organization – organized an awareness program on eve of World Consumer Rights Day at Wagoora Community hall in Baramulla district on Friday.

Sub Judge Baramulla and Secretary District Legal Service Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said, “World Consumer Rights Day 2019, a day dedicated to the birth and exercise of consumer rights, the exponential growth of the consumer movement worldwide and the celebration of its solidarity.”

A large number of people from cross section of society participated and expressed their grievances as consumers with officials and legal experts present.

“It is a day marked to raise global awareness about consumer rights and needs. Celebrating World Consumer Rights Day is a chance to demand that the rights of all consumers are respected and protected, and to protest against market abuses and social injustices which undermine those rights,” the chief guest said.

He urged consumers to come forward with genuine compliant in consumer courts to protect their rights and within thirty days notice is being issued to the party against whom complaint is being filed.

The legal experts urged people to fight for their basic consumer rights which include  the right to satisfaction of basic needs – access to essential goods and services right to safety; right to be informed, right to be heard,  right to redress, right to consumer education and  right to a healthy.

The speakers said that the day is intended to highlight the undermining of the consumer’s fundamental right of choice.

It was informed that this year, the theme of promoted World Consumer Rights Day is “Trusted Smart Products”. From smart phones to wearable fitness trackers, to voice-activated assistants and smart TVs, many of the products we use are increasingly becoming connected by default.

This consumer right day highlights what consumers want and need from a connected world and how important it is to put them at the heart of the development of these digital products and services, another legal expert said.

“Consumer rights broadly mean that each consumer has the right to have information about the quality, potency, quantity, purity, price and standard of goods or services,” said another speaker.

Speaking on the occasion Chairman Human Aid Society (HAS) Bashir Ahmed Mir appealed Governor Staypal Malik to appoint separate judges for district consumer courts so that urge so that consumer rights are safeguarded as normal courts hearing the consumer cases are already over burdened

“I appeal Governor Malik shab to appoint separate judges in the courts to hear consumer cases so that consumer grievances are heard and rights are protected,”added Mir.

Block Development Officer Wagoors, Child Development Officer Wagoora, Tehsildar Wagoora and other officers of PDD, PHE, Bank were present in the area.
