MC Sopore has trash for heart of the town
‘Authorities unloading garbage in the yard of SRTC office’
Sopore, March 13: After failing to establish a proper dumping site for waste management, the authorities in Sopore town are unloading the garbage in the yard of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) office, located in the heart of the town.
According to locals, the officials of Municipal Council (MC) Sopore are dropping all the waste material being collected from different parts of the town in the yard of SRTC office. “The practice is going on since last two months and thereby causing inconvenience to SRTC employees in particular and locals and students of Girls Higher Secondary School Sopore in general,” they said.
Incharge workshop SRTC depot Sopore-Kupwara, Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, alleged the local administration of encroaching the SRTC yard. “We have requested the administration several times to remove garbage from the yard but to no avail,” he said.
Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School Sopore Suraya Jabeen told Kashmir Images that she will talk to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore and officials of MC Sopore with regard to the removal of garbage from SRTC yard which is located a few meters away from her institute.
When contacted ADC Sopore, Ashiq Hussain Lilly, said: “The garbage will be removed from the yard by end of this week and very soon a permanent place for dumping of garbage will be identified.”
