Shopian, March 08: A New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) being constructed at Turkwangam village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district is awaiting completion since last eleven years.

According to the locals, the NTPHC at Turkwangam was sanctioned in the year 2008 and since then the work on it is going on at a snail’s pace. “The health centre once made functional can cater to the medical needs of dozens of villages starting from Zainapora to Litter and up to Pinjura village of Shopian district,” they said

“Although 80% of construction work has been completed but no further progress is being made to make the health center functional. We are being forced to visit hospitals located in Pulwama and Shopian for seeking basic medical treatment,” locals added.

When contacted Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian, Abdul Rasheed, said: “The project is being carried out at a huge budget of 2.5 crore and it is going to take more than a year for its completion.”
