Governor pays homage to Dy SP Aman Thakur

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 25: Governor Satya Pal Malik paid homage to Dy SP Aman Thakur who lost his life during an anti-militant operation at Turigam Village of district Kulgam.

Governor laid floral wreath on the mortal remains of Dy SP Thakur in a wreath laying ceremony held at the District Police Lines here today.

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Deputy Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar Thakur, who was killed in an encounter at Kulgam yesterday, was cremated with full honours at Gajansoo Marh.

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh along with ADGsP Dr B. Srinivas, A. K. Choudhary and S.J.M. Gillani, IGsP M.K. Sinha, Danesh Rana, Alok Kumar, DIG Vivek Gupta and scores of Civil, Army and Police officers attended the cremation.

The family members, relatives, civil society members and colleagues from police gave a tearful adieu to the slain officer. A ceremonial gun salute was presented by police contingent.

Earlier, a wreath laying ceremony was held at DPL Jammu wherein  Governor J&K Satya Pal Malik, Speaker Legislative Assembly Dr. Nirmal Singh, MoS in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh, Advisors to Governor J&K, Chief Secretary J&K, Director General of Police, Chairperson and members of Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA), family members of the slain, senior officers from civil, police, army, CAPFs, retired police officers and respectable from civil society paid floral tributes to the slain officer.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony DGP Dilbag Singh gave details regarding the operation in which three JeM militants including two foreigners were killed at Turigam, Kulgam.

DGP said that DySP Aman Thakur was leading the operation against militants. “The martyr DySP without caring for his life killed two terrorists. He then tried to evacuate his injured colleague, during which the officer was critically injured. He was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed,” a police spokesman said.

DGP while praising the bravery of DySP said that the department is proud of his valour. He said that the officer was posted in Kulgam for last two years and was on front line in the fight against the militancy.
